Our Purpose
We chose to research capital in Chicago local school councils in order to understand who makes the significant decisions within schools. Human, social, and financial capital continue to affect the equity in schools today as many communities are unable to contribute to the capital of an LSC. With an LSC who lacks human capital, a school is less likely to achieve high academic performance due to the lack of resources.

Equity in education for everyone is not a reality. Our American literature class has decided to dive into equity in education, or the lack of it, in all its shapes and forms. From Title Nine, affirmative action programs, the creation of local school councils in Chicago to Pre-K programs. We have been analyzing each situation and topic carefully creating a working question, researching, and then creating a working thesis. But behind it all, our main goal has constantly been to expose the successes of equity as well as exposing the mishaps of equity and the gaps of inequity amongst student social groups. We are suggesting reasonable proposals and solutions to close those gaps found so that equity in education can become a reality for all students.
